Part 4 - Step by Step SEO - Determining Your Keywords For SEO!
By Jim Eberle
We are going to go through the whole process of basic SEO (search engine optimization) in getting a web site to the top of search engine result pages which includes just what SEO really is and what it is about.
This is the fourth article in this series.
I will start out by saying, determining the words and word phrases you will use for your SEO campaign is "The" most important thing you can do! In SEO, these words are referred to as "keywords".
Rather than give you a detailed example as most SEO books would do, I feel it is better to just give you ideas you can run with. Once you get into the flow of your searches, you will see what I mean.
Remember this: During this process of gathering your keywords, keep it in the back of your mind that you will be using these keywords for your domain name as well. Domain names will be talked about later.
We are going to start the process a bit differently than what you might hear from others. We are going to begin by using paper and pencil. Depending on what your niche or the specific category is that you are going for, write down what keywords you would type into a search function to find what you have to offer. Write down all combinations of words that you can think of. While you are doing this, go ahead and do some searches.
You will notice that your word phrases change until you narrow down exactly what you are looking for.
When you find those web sites that your targeted searches point you to, using your mouse, right click on a blank portion of those sites. A menu will come up and one of the options will say "view source". Go ahead and click on it. You now have the source code of more than likely your competition. The source code will show you what keywords and keywords phrases they have been utilizing. Write these down.
Ask friends and family what word phrases they would use to find the products or business opportunity that you are working on. Write this all down.
Now, you need what is called a keyword tracker or analyzer tool. These are software programs that you install on your computer to assist in finding keywords and keyword phrases. They also reveal how many people are clicking each day for each specific keyword phrase. Most importantly, they reveal how much competition per search engine verses people clicking for those terms each day.
There are some web sites that have good keyword analysis tools that you can use online from their site. To find any of these tools, just do a Google search for "free keyword analysis tools". The software tool most people use is called Wordtracker. You have to pay for it but you can download it and use it temporarily for a trial period without incurring charges.
Okay! With your keywords and keyword phrases written down, your goal now is to find the best words you can with the least amount of competition.
Everything you are doing is based on driving a large volume of traffic with the highest quality of leads for your niche to your web site. You are wanting this to happen in the least amount of time and with the least amount of work involved. Your goal is to get on the first page of the search engines.
If you do a search in Google for any keyword you like, look at the top right hand corner of your search results. That number is an average of the total amount of web sites competing for that word phrase. If that number shows up in the millions, it could and probably does scare most people away from it.
Do not let those numbers frighten you!
Go through the top 3 or 4 pages of your search results. Scroll through them and see if you can find any press releases, videos, or articles. If you do, that is where your competition begins...on the first couple of pages.
Actually, for almost any keyword phrase, even if the search results show high in the millions, your competition is still only on the first 3-5 pages. Why is that? Because 99.5% of the people behind those web sites "do not know what they are doing!!" I would say a large portion of them are not even doing SEO. If you know the correct way to write an article for the search engines, it will quickly move up to the first one hundred positions. Think about that! Out of millions of sites?
If you happen to see an article or video on the "front" page, you have hit pay dirt. You will easily be able to take a top position there.
The key here is patience. Take your time with this as there is no going back once you begin. Your domain name and web site will be optimized using the keywords and keyword phrases you decide upon.
The next part of this series will go into keywords just a little bit more...it is that important. You need a plan before starting your SEO and everything is based off of your keywords and your domain name.
I am currently working with a diverse team of like minded individuals in a co-op type atmosphere to build our business opportunity. This growing team currently consists of people from Ireland, Australia, England, Canada, and the United States. This team of network marketers are combining our efforts to obtain high positions in search engines like Google for higher level type keyword phrases.
Where as many people usually fail when trying to build a home based business to supplement their incomes, we work together to ensure everyone has success. Anyone who becomes affiliated with us becomes successful as that is how "we" as a group become successful! The goal here of course is for many people doing a little instead of several people doing alot to ensure that success. All traffic and customers are derived from SEO. We do not call anyone unless they request it. We have a number of web sites but I can only submit two here. To learn more go to...
